Join us for an impactful keynote at the 2025 TACES Midwinter Conference, where Wanda Montemayor, a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor, Registered Art Therapist, Play Therapist Supervisor, and Animal Assisted Counselor, will share her invaluable insights and experiences.
With a background in art education, professional counseling, supervision, and over 20 years in the school system, Wanda has committed her career to enhancing the emotional well-being of children, teens, and adults. Her unique approach combines art therapy with mindfulness, multicultural learning, and social-emotional development. She has led community art initiatives since 1998, proving the profound healing power of art, especially for those facing crises. Additionally, she has trained and supervised others in both school and community mental health settings.
Keynote Topic: Lessons Learned from the Uvalde Love Project – Leading Leaders
The Uvalde Love Project was born out of the tragic events in Uvalde, Texas, aiming to foster healing and resilience through community-driven art and expression. This presentation will explore the genesis, goals, and impact of the project, which brings together art therapy, play therapy, and community engagement to help those affected by trauma rebuild a sense of connection and hope. Participants will learn about the Healing Centered Engagement used to support and empower the Uvalde community. By examining the project’s methods and outcomes, attendees will gain insights into using creative interventions to promote healing and how community-focused efforts can provide powerful support in the aftermath of trauma.

The Texas Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (TACES) 2025 Mid-Winter Conference will be held February 27-28, 2025, in Austin, Texas. The conference theme is Community Roots, Counseling Futures: Strengthening Bonds Through Counselor Education and Supervision. The conference aims to connect education and supervision practices with community needs while nurturing stronger connections within the counseling profession. The TACES MidWinter Conference is the premier conference for counselor educators and supervisors in Texas.
